Kal-El is a long coated white shepherd. He was born on July 7, 2002. He is 26.5 inches tall at the withers and averages around 75 pounds. He has a long coat, which is longer and thicker than Sparrow's ( see a comparison here ). Kal-El is named after Superman (Kal-El is Superman's Kryptonian name). Kal-El is a great dog (in my totally unbiased opinion of course!). He has a medium drive and is very trainable. He is clicker trained and picks up new behaviors very quickly. Kal-El is very biddable, and is always trying to do whatever he can to please me.
Kal-El has been shown quite a bit in several different types of dog events.
In conformation, he has an International Championship from the International All-Breed Canine Association (IABCA), a Championship from the United Kennel Club (UKC), and is pointed towards his American White Shepherd Association (AWSA) championship. He also has a leg toward his UKC Grand Championship. However, he is mostly retired from conformation as of now.
In very limited showing in obedience, he has his Rally Novice title from the American Kennel Club (AKC) and his United Companion Dog from the UKC. He also has some legs towards his Rally Novice title in World Wide Kennel Club.
In flyball, Kal-El has the titles up to Flyball Dog Excellent from the North American Flyball Association (NAFA). Unfortunately, we are taking a break from flyball right now.
Kal-El primarily shows in agility! In the AKC, he has both Novice, Open and Excellent A level titles. He is currently working the Excellent B titles, and has now gotten his Master Agilty Jumpers title! We are also working towards his Master Agilty Championship. In the UKC, he has the UAG1, UAG2, United Agility Champion (UACH) and United Agility Chamion Excellent (UACHX) and United Grand Agility Champion (UGRACH). Kal-El is the first UKC registered White Shepherd to receive the UACHX and the UGRACH!!! I'm very proud of him! We have started up CPE agility too and Kal is going very well there also. We have finished up all the Level 3 and Level 4 titles. Kal is one leg away from his C-ATCH! We hope to get that in October. We're having a lot of fun with CPE! (VIEW KAL IN ACTION HERE! )
Kal-El has also passed the American Temperament Test Society's temperament test and the AKC's Canine Good Citizen. He has passed a herding instinct test. His hips have been evaluated by PennHip with DI of .38 Left, .35 Right. His hips and elbows have been evaluated by the OFA with his hips certified as good and his elbows certifed as normal. He also passed CERF evaluation in June, 2007. However, a cardiac test taken at the same time showed that he had a heart murmur. I decided to neuter Kal-El due to his murmur, among other considerations. Besides, he's such a great dog that no puppy of his could ever live up to his reputation. He is my heart dog, now and always.
