I love this shot...Lonya running like the wind!
Lonya her first time seeing sheep!
This is the life....
This is Lonya! She is a Mudi (a herding breed), imported from Hungary in March 2009. She was born on December 16. 2008. She is about 17.5 inches tall and weighs about 25 lbs. Lonya is a black merle Mudi, with very small flecks of blue in each eye. She has a natural bobbed tail. She is my first Mudi, and I really am taken in by her! She is very very smart and has taken to the clicker really quickly. She will give me lip if she gets confused, but she'll still try, even while she's barking at me. She isn't overly barky, though is more so then the shepherds.
Lonya has been shown in UKC conformation. She is the 3rd Mudi to be crowned a UKC Champion! She was only shown 2 weekends, and had to place in group for her wins, as she was the only Mudi at the show.
She is also in training for agility. She has really come into her own in this sport and has grown to love her "job". She has several lower level CPE titles, and the first 2 UKC titles. She's working on the next titles in these venues. We've mostly done AKC agility, where Lonya has her AXJ and her AX We are working on her MX, MXJ, and MACH. In 2011, Lonya was the #2 Mudi and was invited to the AKC Agility Invitational! I'm very excited about how well she's doing at such a young age. Her agility photos are located HERE!
Lonya got to meet sheep for the first time in Dec 2009. She was a natural! She really enjoyed herding and she passed her herding instinct test with no probelms. She was certainly a natural, though I definitely am not. Lonya has also earned her Canine Good Citizenship. She did very well on the test, with only a whimper or two during supervised seperation.
I do hope to breed Lonya down the line, pending all of her health tests. Her OFA page is here. Her hips are OFA Good and her elbows are OFA normal. She has been CERF'd a couple of times, with nothing major noted. She has 2 extra eyelashes (one in upper eyelid, also called distichiasis). I'll begin the process of finding a suitable mate for her soon. The Mudi is still pretty uncommon in the US but I hope that we can get some more people interested in this unique breed!
A star in born! Lonya at one of her first agility trials. Photo taken by Good Dog Sports.
